One murdered man, eight women, each looking to be more impatient than the others to know who the murderer is.

The man is relative to all these women. The 8 women include his wife, sister, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, daughters, housekeeper and fille de chambre. Accusations, reveal of secrets, reasons to kill. All well played by French Film stars like Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Huppert, Danielle Darrieux.

It is a musical journey to 1960s French pop songs as well. Another nice contemporary French film.

Candle-lit interior cinematography, lush misty landscapes, strong characters, exquisite costumes, an authentic boudoir recreation of 18th century French society, a new kind of savage ‘monster’ and some of the finest stylized fight scenes ever laid down in a ‘genre’ film, place Pacte des Loups also known as Brotherhood of the Wolf, among the classiest French horror adventure films of all time. And as a bonus we have Monica Bellucci naked !!

Based (loosely) on an 18th-century legend, this French film follows a hunky scientist (Samuel Le Bihan) and his Iroquois sidekick/spiritual partner (Mark Dacascos) as they pursue a monstrous wolf ravaging the French countryside. Along the way Le Bihan gets entwined with a beautiful noblewoman (Emilie Dequenne) and a gorgeous prostitute (Monica Belluci) with secrets to tell. Go for it.

The Return of Martin Guerre , 1982

The film tells us a true story about a young man from Southern France who leaves his village to fight in the Wars of Religion in the 16th century. He comes back to his village and family eight years after he left – now a different man.

Nobody notices the changes in him after many years until one day a vagrant claims to recognize him and says that he is not the real Martin Guerre. His family had to consider the possibility that he may not be really Martin Guerre. Eventually the question goes to court. The film was remade in English, and updated to the Reconstruction, in 1993 as Sommersby, starring Richard Gere and Jodie Foster. See this original instead of the imitation. The film story flows well and the cinematography is great.
